Keeping It Real Part One: My Vagina is Not a Unicorn
I wanted to write this blog to “keep it real.” But then it got super long so I decided to make it a series of blogs.
When I started my business with the name “Practically Perfect” as a play on words. For everyone working on getting to their version of good enough or what I consider “practically perfect.”
And people always joke that I’m like Mary Poppins who is “practically perfect in every way.”
But I get messages and comments sometimes that make me worry that the image I portray on the internet is one of perfection and I wanted to clear some of that up!
Because being real and letting others know they are not alone in this struggle of life is super important to me!
I used to struggle to be prim, proper and perfect and it did a lot of emotional damage to me. I wanted to please people and make them like me. The funny part was, the more I am myself, the more I am surrounded by “my people” who see me for me, love me anyway or enjoy my snarky, dry sense of humor.
So let’s begin the list…
“You must have a perfect vagina.”
I get this a lot from those internet trolls. Apparently, when you talk about sexual health, it is an invitation for unwanted commentary and questions about your anatomy and intimate life.
I’m a cis female. So yeah, I have a vagina, uterus, ovaries and breasts. But there is no such thing as a perfect vagina, or any of those things.
Female anatomy is all unique, adaptive, evolutionary, individual and beautiful. My knowledge about pelvic floor things does not mean I can manifest perfection in my genitalia, whatever that may be. So my vagina is not a magical unicorn in a rainbow garden.
And don’t forget I got into this field because I’ve had my share of pelvic floor struggles that are always a work in progress! I’ve struggled with bedwetting and constipation as a child, urinary frequency and urgency, chronic UTIs, and pain with sex and am a mom to a kid who has had pee and poop issues too.
Stay tuned for more keeping it real in the future….
Perfectly Yours 😉
